Built for Resilience

Southwest Louisiana continues to rebuild after back-to-back hurricanes displaced communities across the region. While significant progress has been made, the demand for quality, affordable housing remains high. New developments are helping address that need by creating stable places for families to live while supporting the region's continued recovery.  

Benoit Townhomes is one of those developments. Located on an 11-acre site in Lake Charles, the community includes 78 affordable townhomes designed for income-qualified households. The development reflects years of planning and collaboration among public and private partners working to increase housing opportunities in a region where many families continue to face limited options following Hurricanes Laura and Delta.  

A Collaborative Investment in Recovery  

Benoit Townhomes officially opened in April 2026 following a shared effort between Renaissance Neighborhood Development Corporation, the Louisiana Housing Corporation, the Louisiana Office of Community Development, and their public and private partners. The development was financed through Low Income Housing Tax Credits, Multifamily Housing Revenue Bonds, and Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery funding made available after Hurricanes Laura and Delta.  

The project reflects the ongoing work taking place across Southwest Louisiana to restore housing opportunities following years of storm recovery.  

"This represents the opening of a new housing development. It signifies continued recovery and resilience five years after Hurricane Laura," said Gina Campo, Executive Director of the Louisiana Office of Community Development Disaster Recovery. "Benoit Townhomes marks a meaningful step forward in rebuilding stronger, smarter, and more resilient communities for working families in this region."  

Vanessa Levine, Executive Director of Renaissance Neighborhood Development Corporation, said the development demonstrates what can happen when organizations work together.  

"Benoit Townhomes reflects what effective disaster recovery can achieve when partners are aligned around a shared goal," Levine said. "This community provides quality, affordable housing while helping families continue rebuilding their lives in Southwest Louisiana."  

Designed for Long-Term Living  

The community was planned with both durability and day-to-day living in mind. Townhomes feature energy-efficient appliances, in-unit washers and dryers, and resilient construction intended to support the long-term needs of residents. Shared amenities encourage outdoor activity, provide gathering spaces, and create opportunities for neighbors to connect.  

The development includes a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes, providing housing options for individuals, couples, and families at different stages of life. Convenient access to schools, shopping, healthcare, and major transportation corridors also helps residents stay connected to the surrounding community.  

Louisiana Housing Corporation Executive Director Kevin Delahoussaye said developments like Benoit Townhomes play an important role in expanding housing opportunities across the state. 

"Our public and private partnerships help us make affordable housing more attainable to residents in Louisiana," Delahoussaye said. "The Benoit Townhomes will allow residents to feel at ease in their home, allowing them and their community to thrive."
